What fun we had at The Essex Resort and Spa on Sunday! And the best part is, I get to do it again this Saturday!

Here’s a few of my favorites so far…

Mom2 Jeff surprised his wife with the session a few days before! At the last moment before I left for the Essex, I happened to grab a blue and white blanket that match their outfits perfectly. How’s that for luck?

mom1 All these guys did is laugh the WHOLE time! Such a joy to photograph.

mom3 I was lucky enough to photograph Jen’s wedding two summers ago. I cannot believe what a lovely young lady her daughter has become. The two of them make a stunning pair!

If you are feeling like you missed out, you’re in luck! I have a few spots left for Saturday (May 18th,2013). Get in touch to book your spot!

The most common question, and a great one! So here’s a few tips to get you started;

• Dress For the Location, Season & Type of Session

After you pick you location, is it formal or casual? Select seasonal clothing that complements you as well as the place you are in. In other words, you won’t wear furry boots and coat to the beach for a casual summer family session.  Bare feet, rolled up pants with coordinating tops or a fun skirt is more likely. And if you pick a beautiful green field , stay away from wearing too much green. You’ll blend right into the background.

• Solids Over Prints

If I had to pick, 9 times out of 10 I’ll choose the solid color. Busy prints and stripes tend to be distracting and less body flattering than a solid color.

• Don’t Be Matchy – Matchy

 It’s ok to wear colors from the same family. But don’t put every on in a matching red polo shirt. Mix it up! Wear your favorite colorful scarf and use the colors in the scarf to tie your group’s outfits together. Pick three colors that go well together ,everyone likes and wear different combinations of them. The days of everyone in the white button-down and khaki pants are gone. Be more creative. I know you can do it! And if your just not sure, I’ll be happy to help!

•Be Comfortable, Be Yourself

Probably the most important! Wear something comfortable that reflects your personal style. If you feel beautiful, you’ll look beautiful. If you’re child doesn’t like the shirt he’s wearing, he’ll probably be fussing in every photo and eventually in tantrum position. Let’s try to avoid that, shall we? If you’re uncomfortable in your skinny jeans which no one in real life looks good in you won’t feel hot and you’ll probably be making that weird “I’m uncomfortable” face. Why on earth would you do that to yourself?

• Have Fun!

If you look like you’re having fun, you probably are! And you’ll be glad that I’m there taking pictures to remember the moment.

Still stuck?  Go though your favorite stores ads and use what they are wearing for inspiration!

Here’s some visual inspiration;

Yellow

Ah, yellow! The color of happiness, of light and sunshine. Yellow is a wonderful color to wear in outdoor, buttery natural-light shoots, and looks amazing on camera! Although yellow can be difficult for some to wear because of its tendency to wash out skin tones, patterns with yellow or a single yellow garment in an otherwise neutral palette adds wonders to your images. Adding yellow florals, jewelry, or accents also helps to make your photos go “POP!”. I  love yellow!

Violet

In ancient times, the creation of purple dye was an incredibly lengthy, expensive process. Purple garments became a symbol of wealth and nobility, even royalty; and were sought after world-round. Although violet is now far easier to come by, the color is still associated with its royal roots. A violet-themed engagement outfit exudes playful sophistication and looks great on camera! Small accents of purple, such as scarves and accessories, can also liven up an otherwise muted palette!

Orange

Orange is a tangy, optimistic color that demands attention! Strong, joyful, and happy, adding orange to your  session is always a hit on camera. Couples with a more extroverted nature might enjoy orange-themed outfits. Orange also looks wonderful in urban settings, such as against concrete, brick, and stone.

Green

Nothing says fresh and new quite like the color green! Green comes in a wide array of shades, ranging from a yellowish, pea-like hue all the way to turquoise! Green looks beautiful combined with earth tones, and therefore makes a wonderful choice for outdoor shoots and backdrops of wood and stone. Even small accents of green, such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes, look wonderful with whites and tans.

Have fun & see you soon!
